New Convenor for Nambucca Macleay Greens

Introducing the new convenor of the Nambucca Macleay Greens, Sally Cavanagh, who replaced Arthur Bain at a recent AGM.

Sally Cavanagh is the new Macleay/Nambucca Greens convenor

As well as representing Green politics for the district Sally foresees a more social year with bushwalks, picnics and maybe a bushdance adding more fun and variety to the NM Greens calendar.
Sally has spent most of her adult life in the Nambucca area, raised three children and is a proud grandmother.
She has been employed in Nambucca Shire and is now a small business operator.
Landscape management is her forte and she carries out work in National Estate areas, Council lands as well as private properties. She is an Environmental Group representative on the Board of Management for Gagaal Wanggaan National Park on the south side of Nambucca Heads.
Her love of the Mid North Coast is second nature and besides wanting a gem of a place for her grandchildren to thrive, she is passionate about the people, the forests, the ocean and rivers and all the creatures that call those environments home.
The recent catastrophes in the Nambucca/Macleay areas are therefore of great concern and Sally wholeheartedly dismisses the 'bunkum' whipped up around the fires blaming Greens, unjustly, as contributors.

She points to the Greens membership, which includes RFS volunteers who are actively engaged in firefighting but just as importantly involved in shaping and continually refining Greens policy toward hazard reduction and land management based on their experience.

Sally says the 'science' that predicted harsher weather conditions is there for all to see and that a 'broad church' of experience and expert opinion is vital to a better future for land management.
She sees the National Parks and Wildlife 'copping flak' unjustifiably as they try to manage areas with low staffing and low morale after budget cuts and restructuring.

"Only nine per cent of NSW is National Park so those responsible for the other 91 per cent need to be put in the spotlight to make sure they are managing their vast tracts of the State sustainably," Sally said.
The local branch is often at markets in Valla and Kempsey and welcomes constructive comment and discussion.

Meetings are held monthly and further information is available on the Nambucca Macleay Greens Facebook page or by emailing the Secretary at gjcarrad@bigpond.com.
