How hot will our next summer be?
Greens bring Earth Ball to Bellingen Community Markets
The June 17
Community markets in Bellingen will see something very new to the Shire, a
large Earth ball, said Jeremy Buckingham, Greens MP and Bellingen resident.
“We are launching the giant Earth ball
in the Bellingen Shire at Bellingen District Markets on June 17. I am touring
the almost 5m high Earth ball around the state as part of my "Climate Not
Coal" tour of NSW. It will be on the oval at the next markets. I will chat
about climate change, coal and our kids’ future planet.
“The Greens are the only political
party in Australia saying ‘No!’ to Adani. It’s a coal mine that will destroy
farms and destroy our climate. It means the end of The Great Barrier Reef.
“There are record levels of Co2 and Greenhouse gases in our atmosphere.
"Our climate is cooking. We need Renewable Energy. We need clean energy jobs. Wherever I go with the Earth Ball that is what I am told. People want to make sure that their kids have a future.
"A survey of 1202 adults during
the first three weeks of March found 81 per cent of respondents wanted
policymakers to focus on clean energy sources such as wind and solar, even if
it costs more to ensure grid reliability.
“We must rapidly phase out fossil
fuels. Coal is over. For the sake of the workers we cannot ignore this any
longer. We need a transition plan for the Hunter Valley.
“Labor has the power to stop the Adani
coal mine. If Federal Labor says it will review the federal approvals once
elected then no bank will finance it. Why won't Bill Shorten stop Adani?
“If this makes readers
angry and they want to do something about it then they should join the Greens
and help us change politics in Australia. They can talk to me and also can join
the Greens at the June 17 Markets.”
