Police have today (November 23) launched a violent assault on refugees in the Manus detention centre. Hundreds of police have trashed the refugees' property and equipment in an effort to force them out.

After over four years in detention, they have taken a stand, refusing to simply be transferred to another prison camp. Behrouz Boochani, a refugee on Manus has written that they want, “one thing, and one thing only, and that is freedom. Only freedom.” They have faced three weeks without power, water, food or medical supplies. Manus Island is not safe for them. It's time to end the torture and Bring Them Here immediately.

Manus crisis: what you can do

We have compiled a list of actions to support the refugees on Manus that you can take below:

1. Organise an action with a group of friends or workmates with "We stand with Manus" signs downloadable here and post to Facebook with the hastag #Manus and #WeAreWatching and email to info@refugeeaction.org.au. We will send photos to the refugees on Manus to help keep their spirits up.

2. Get involved in RAC: we meet every Monday 6pm at NSW Teachers Fed building, 23-33 Mary St Surry Hills (5 minutes from Central station)

3. Contact your local MP via email or phone and tell them you are worried for the safety of people on Manus and want the government to Bring Them Here. Find your local MPs by searching here. Call Malcolm Turnbull on (02) 6277 7700 and Bill Shorten on (02) 6277 4022"
