Greens MP calls on State Parliament to save Mona Vale Hospital services

NSW Greens MP and Health spokesperson, Dawn Walker MP has moved a motion in State Parliament calling on the NSW Government to reverse its decision to downgrade Mona Vale Hospital and continue to provide acute and emergency services at the site.
The motion comes following a large community rally at Mona Vale Village Green on the weekend that saw hundreds of Northern Beaches locals turnout to oppose the NSW Government’s plans to remove emergency, maternity, paediatric, surgery, intensive care and other acute services from Mona Vale Hospital when the new Northern Beaches Hospital opens.



“Mona Vale Hospital is a public health facility that is highly valued and the Northern Beaches community deserves to have Mona Vale Hospital operating at full-capacity with acute and emergency services all provided, as has been the case for many years” said Dawn Walker MP.

“There is also legitimate concern about the distance and ability for some Northern Beaches locals to readily access the new Northern Beaches Hospital at Frenchs Forest, especially when the Wakehurst Parkway is congested or closed due to flooding or bushfire.

“While the Liberal-Nationals might take the people of the Northern Beaches for granted and happily to strip away important public health services, the community has made a stand and put the Government, including Health Minister Brad Hazzard and local MP, Rob Stokes on notice.

“It’s time the State Government listened to the community and reversed their decision to downgrade Mona Vale Hospital and ensure acute and emergency services are maintained at full capacity” said Dawn Walker MP.
