Complicit ABC board must go

The ABC Board should be sacked and new board members appointed without political interference, the Greens say.
"After hearing the allegations put forward by Michelle Guthrie and a number of concerning statements made by Justin Milne on Four Corners, it is clear the board must be sacked.

What's also clear is the board is plagued with political interference from the Communications Minister and the Liberal Government," Greens media spokesperson Senator Sarah Hanson-Young said.

"The Board may have refused to speak to Four Corners, but each individual member will be called before the upcoming Senate inquiry.

"The Senate inquiry into the mismanagement and political interference at the ABC comes at a good time. It is clear that board members themselves have questions to answer and need to be held accountable for their decisions.

"It's time to put a broom through the board and replace it with people who are there for the interest of the public broadcaster and the Australian people.

"Justin Milne and the ABC Board members hand-picked by the Minister have not had the ABC's independence and integrity at the centre of what they do.

"The ABC is owned by the Australian people. It is not there for the Liberal party to use as a punching bag, allowed by a board stacked by the Minister's mates."
