Gas Mining the Pilliga |
"96% of landholders over 3 million hectares across the north west reject these industries due to their impact on water, land, air, landholders, communities and traditional owners."

There’s a crisis developing in the heart of Australia. It’s centred in a sea of fields and grazing land in North West New South Wales, where there’s an island of green that stretches far, far beyond the horizon.
But now, a massive coal seam gas (CSG) project run by rogue fossil fuel company, Santos, threatens to change it forever. Up to 850 planned CSG wells are on the verge of ruining this peaceful place.
Anne Kennedy is helping organise the community around the Pilliga to reject fracking.
They will do anything it takes to protect their water, their livelihoods, and their culture.

In 2018, the oil and gas industry operating in North Dakota’s Bakken
Shale burned off record amounts of natural gas, largely obtained via
hydraulic fracturing (fracking). This process, known as flaring, costs
the industry money — it literally burns one of the products being pumped
out of the ground — but more importantly, the resulting release of
globe-warming emissions of carbon dioxide and methane spells disaster
for the climate.
And a new analysis of satellite evidence indicates the industry is
likely underreporting how much gas it is actually flaring in the Permian
Shale, with implications for other oil fields. Read more.
