The
Greens were established by a small group of wonderfully passionate
people just over 25 years ago. A quarter of a century later, our
movement has grown rapidly to become the third major force in Australian
politics with representation at all levels of politics. We now have
Greens representatives on local councils right across the country,
dozens of State MPs and ten federal MPs.
And we’re making a huge difference! In the
last few years we have led the introduction of a banking royal
commission to expose the dodgy practices of the big banks; been at the
forefront of legislating for marriage equality; given access to
medicinal cannabis for people who need it; called out sexism and
misogyny in the parliament; campaigned alongside community groups to
stop fracking and new coal mines; pushed the old parties to establish
ambitious renewable energy targets; been the only party to speak out and
expose the injustices taking place on Manus Island and Nauru; led the
introduction of dying with dignity laws in Victoria; and worked with
local councils right across the country to change the date of
Australia Day.

I’m so proud to lead a grassroots party made up of thousands of Australians who actively champion the things they believe in. People just like you founded the Greens, and people like you power the Greens every day.
The Greens have always been supported and run by people who
believe everyone should be treated equally, we should protect our
environment and we should all have access to the services we need to
live a good life.
