On Wednesday,
I moved a motion in the Senate for the Liberal and Labor parties to
commit to establish a Royal Commission investigating abuse, neglect and
violence committed against people with disabilities in residential and
institutional settings. Both parties worked together to vote this motion down.
It’s just so utterly disappointing that they would turn their backs on such an important investigation. This decision cannot be swept under the rug! Share my Facebook post to hold the old parties to account.
For people with disability, institutional and residential care can be dark, terrifying places. They should be places they feel safe.
How much more graphic footage needs to come out showing evidence of serious assault or accounts of sexual assault and psychological harm before the Government listens? They cannot keep ignoring this.
We will continue putting pressure on both old parties in Canberra, because these abuses will keep happening unless they step in with meaningful action. Help us spread this message far and wide by sharing our campaign with your friends.
